Company Search

Company Search is one of the tools which allows you to screen our database to view information on individual companies or to develop a list of companies which match certain criteria you have selected.
Industry Peer Search is a special tool within this section which can be accessed by clicking on the industry descriptor(s) column of a research list you create (see below for more details).

To search for information on an individual company:
To start you can choose to either search for the company based on its stock symbol using Symbol OR you can initiate the search using the company's name, or a part of its name, by filling in the Name entry field. Once you have entered the symbol or name, then move to the bottom of the screen and hit Search. (Please note: each search tool in this section is independent and you DO NOT have to enter a Symbol or Name to develop a list of companies - for more info see below). This search will return a list of one, or more, companies that share elements of the Symbol or Name you have entered. To view complete data profiles on your selection(s), click on the name of the company that interests you.

To develop a list of companies which meet certain criteria:
You can initiate a search screen based on one, or a combination, of any of the following parameters:

Please Note:

  • It is not necessary to make an entry to all fields.
  • To see a Selection Menu click on the arrow on the right hand of the entry field (available where multiple options are offered).

Industry
Industry or Industries in which the companies operate You can also use the following 'Range' parameters which will screen for companies which fall between the numeric ranges you enter:

Shares Outstanding (Millions)
The term 'Shares Outstanding' refers to the number of common shares the company has issued which are currently held by investors (other than the company's own treasury) - Entry example: "10 to 20" means you are searching for companies which have between 10 and 20 million shares outstanding.

Share Price ($)
This data is based on the last price at which the companies' shares traded. Entry example: "2 to 5" means you are searching for companies which have a share price between $2 and $5. (Please do not enter the $ sign in the search field

Market Capitalization ($ - Millions)
Market Capitalization (or 'Market Cap') is a analytical measurement based on a formula which multiplies a company's current stock by its shares outstanding to determine an indication of the 'dollar value' of the company - Entry example: "5 to 50" means you are searching for companies which have a Market Capitalization of between $5 and $50 million. (Please do not enter the $ sign in the search field).

Once you have entered your search parameters, then move to the bottom of the screen and hit Search. (Please note: If you do not enter specific parameters, clicking on Search will initiate a query of the entire database).

This search will return a list of one, or more, companies that meet the criteria you have entered. To view complete data profiles on the companies in the list your have created, click on the names of the companies that interest you.

Display Options

Rows To Return
This entry field allows you to limit the amount of data the search will return. For example, if you only wish to see information on 10 companies, you would enter '10' here. On the other hand you might enter '999' to capture as many companies as possible. By limiting the Rows to Return, you speed your search.

Sorting Options
This section allows you to sort your search based on the Selection Menu which can be accessed by clicking on the arrow on the right hand of the entry field.

Custom Sort Features
By ticking off items in this list you can customize different searches based on the following:

  • Industry
  • SEC Filings (these are regulatory filings companies have made with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and include such items as quarterly and annual reports)
  • Last Trade / Change
  • Year High / Year Low
  • Shares Outstanding (millions)
  • Market Cap (millions)
  • Earnings Per Share (EPS) / P/E Ratio - EPS means the after tax earnings of a company available to common shareholders divided by the number of outstanding common shares. P/E Ratio means 'Price Earnings Ratio'. This is an analytical measurement based on a company's current share price divided by its most recently reported annualized Earnings Per Share. It is stated as the number of 'times' a company's price covers its earnings. It is often used, along with many other tools, to compare the relative value of companies.)

If you wish to save your list, use the Save Query feature - Entry example: name your list (for example: "New York Search") then click Save Query. You can then access this list through the My Searches page of the Tools section. To see the list, simply click on its name.
**Note: This feature is only available if you have registered and are logged in.
